Ah, February 14th—the day of love. Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is here to stay. It’s the one day of the year when all matters of love are celebrated in all its forms. So, let’s take a look at this day and demystify what it truly means and how to enjoy it.

The History Behind Valentine's Day
Valentine’s Day dates back thousands of years and is believed to have originated from an ancient Roman fertility festival that was held around the same time each year in mid-February. It was called Lupercalia and was a celebration honoring Juno, the goddess of marriage and women.

During this festival, men would sacrifice goats and dogs as part of religious ceremonies, then whip women with animal hides dipped in their blood as part of fertility rites. Thankfully, those barbaric practices were put to rest by Pope Gelasius I in 496 A.D., who replaced them with a more romantic event—the celebration of Saint Valentine!
